7 Life Lessons We Should Learn from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

Shivaji Maharaj
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj:

The Maratha Empire in western India was founded by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He is regarded as one of the best fighters of his day, and stories of his bravery are being told as legends in today's time. Shivaji carved away a stronghold from the collapsing Adil-Shahi sultanate of Bijapur with his gallantry and strong administrative abilities. It eventually gave birth to the Maratha Empire.

Upon the establishment of his authority, Shivaji instituted a competent and progressive government with the assistance of a disciplined military and a well-established administrative structure. Shivaji was very well known for his unconventional military tactics that relied on strategic variables like location, speed, and surprise to beat his stronger opponents.

Jijamata used to have a major influence on Shivaji Raje. Jijamata did teach him the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Gita from early life, instilled in him a love of culture, and made sure that he accompanied the great saints, during his period of adolescence. Dadoji Konddev taught Shivaji Raje how to use weapons, particularly the Danpatta. The "Hindavi Swarajya" movement was launched by Shivaji Maharaj.

7 Life Lessons We Should Learn from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj:

What would we learn from the life of Shivaji Maharaj, the mighty warrior, and a great king? Young people should be inspired by great leaders and gain knowledge of the diverse management and life skills that are required for material, spiritual, and social growth. In this blog, we will discuss what we can learn from the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, we have compiled a list of seven life lessons that we can learn from Shivaji's life.

1. Respect Your Own Culture: We can learn a lot about ourselves if we learn the roots of our culture and pursue them appropriately. We can build connections with our roots and value ourselves. Following our culture improves our self-esteem and dignity. It also makes us proud to be a part of our own culture.

Sanskrit and Marathi were reinstated as official languages in Shivaji Raje's court. This demonstrates the importance of local languages in preserving our culture; they facilitate communication with all segments of society, allowing for social and economic growth.

2. Leading from the Front: Shivaji Maharaj liked to lead from the front rather than to guide from the back. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj often led each task of governance or armed conflicts from the front, i.e., being the forefront leader to actively engage, instead of being an instructor who stayed back. He demonstrated this on numerous occasions, such as when he won many forts thought to be impossible at the time.

Shivaji dreamed of Swarajya. He didn't encourage people to work for his vision of Sawarajya; rather then, Raje made his vision his people's vision. He lived his dream alongside his people, which is why they even sacrificed their own lives for this purpose, their cause. This resulted in, every Maratha's dream had become Swarajya.

3. Women must be Treated with Respect: Shivaji Maharaj was well-known for this. Women used to have to fight harder in the century before Shivaji Maharaj to sustain themselves. He released a public warning about the code and ethics that resulted in the growth of women's respect.  He used to penalize anybody who disrespected women, and the punishment could be severe in some cases.

Jijamata had been teaching him about the strength and courage of goddesses and how Sanatan Dharma values women since he was a child. Shivaji Maharaj believed strongly in women's rights and honor.

4. Laying Solid Foundation for the Next Generation: Like a mentor for a competent leader in the modern age, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has left a legacy of great actions, hard work, and selflessness. Whereas Shivaji's mother, Jijabai, laid the groundwork for Swarajya in his head, his father, Shahaji, helped him lay the groundwork for Hindavi Swaraj.

His Swaraj was established on morality, principles, integrity, management, and leadership, and he'll be remembered for nation-building exercises and for gaining help for the cause of Swarajya for the coming generations.

5. Sincerity and Truthfulness: Shivaji Maharaj only recognizes those who have faithfully carried out their responsibilities. The trustees of the Maratha Swarajya adopted the responsibility of assigning the perfect person for the suitable position, relying not on skill set but, on the person's, perfect morals and truthfulness.

This explains why honesty, morality, and ethics were so important during Shivaji's reign. The promotion was only guaranteed if the individual demonstrated his worthiness, honesty, and ability to be completely trusted.

6. Encourage Innovation: Shivaji has been well known for his military and political strategies. Because he always implemented his strategies with a creative flair. Given the scarcity of resources that he has always faced throughout his life, he has always believed in the effective use of individuals and any natural resource, along with warfare materials and weapons. His warfare and running the government styles have always been the subject of research for all military and governance-related topics.

Shivaji Maharaj was always a proponent of new technology and innovative ideas. He researched this and provided new weapons to his soldiers. He also anticipated the significance of the navy and established a strong command over the sea.

7. Be Confident and Courageous: During adversity and chaos, confidence and courage are essential; trust in oneself and in the Divine. Shivaji Raje and his son had been detained in Agra for over three months. Aurangzeb created a plan both physically and mentally weaken Shivaji before killing him. Despite the threat, Shivaji Maharaj had faith in himself and God. He paved the way for us to take a balanced approach to adversity, keeping peace in mind. Rather than becoming engrossed and concerned about the circumstance, he plotted and worked on a way out.

So, when the appropriate time came, he and his son managed to escape through sweet baskets, thanks to his perfectly planned events. He was crowned when he returned to Raigad after nearly six months away. When we have patience, courage, confidence, a strategy against the odds, a goal-oriented approach, love for society and nation, and commitment, life will change.
