Atal Tunnel is also known as a Rohtang Tunnel. Atal Tunnel is a highway tunnel built under the Rohtang pass in the Eastern Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas on the Leh-Manali Highway in Himachal Pradesh, India. This is the world's longest Tunnel in India. It is in the horseshoe shaped, single tube double lane tunnel with a roadways of 8 mtrs.

Length & Width:- At 9.02 km. length, it is the longest tunnel above 10,000ft. (3,048m) and width 10 meters. This is the world's longest tunnel. It's built by the Border Road Organisation (BRO).
History of Atal Tunnel:- The Maravian Mission first time talked about the possibility of a tunnel through Rohtang pass to reach Lahaul in1960. Later, The Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru discussed a rope way of Rohtang pass with local tribes. This Tunnel project was planned or conceived in 1983. Almost after 37 years the first mention, when Atal Bihari Vajpayee, became again Prime Minister, two locals suggested his childhood friends as Mr.Arjun Gopal visit him and talk about a Rohtang Tunnel. Two other Companions, Chhering Dorje and Abhay Chand, moved to Delhi. At least one year of discussions Vajpayee went to Lahout in June 2000 and declared that the Rohtang Tunnel would be constructed. Running this type of history Prime Minister Narendra Modi renamed the tunnel the Atal Tunnel, in honour of Atal vajpayee, On 25 December 2019, Vajpayee's birthday. This is a world's longest Tunnel that is named "Atal Tunnel "Himachal Pradesh in India.I t began On 28 June 2010. It is operated by Border Roads Organisation. Inaugurated by Narendra Modi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi On 03 October 2020 Saturday inaugurated the Atal Tunnel at Rohtang at an altitude of obove 3,000 meters. in Himachal Pradesh. After the inauguration, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the tunnel would provide strength to the Country's border infrastructure.
Atal Tunnel Route:- Atal Tunnel was formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi On 03 Oct 2020, Saturday morning in what is being seen as much a strategic move as a move for convenience of people who would want to travel between Manali and Ladakh by Road throughout the year. The road route thus far for only six months each year due to climatic conditions but Atal Tunnel have done to not only keep the driving option open throughout the year but also reduce driving distance. It reduces the road distance by 46 km between Manali & Leh and the time about four to five hours. The South portal of Atal Tunnel is located at a distance of 25 km from Manali. NOTE:- In the coming months, tourists will be able to travel to Himachal Pradesh on board Vistadome buses inside Rohtang Tunnel.
