State Emblem of Jharkhand

  • In the old state emblem of the state of Jharkhand, the Ashoka Chakra was shown between the four J's (English letters).
  • In the state emblem, the color of J was green and the color of Ashoka Chakra was blue.
  • On 15 August 2020, the Hemant Soren government of Jharkhand unveiled the new state emblem. In this symbol, special care has been taken of the tribal nature of Jharkhand state.
  • Ashoka Pillar is depicted in the middle of this symbol. After this, in the first line, the tribals of Jharkhand are shown dancing and singing with their cultural instruments.
  • In the second row the state flower Tesu are shown and in the third and last row the state animal elephant is shown.

State Bird of Jharkhand: Kokil(Asian Koel)

  • The scientific name of Kokil is Asian Koel.
  • Asian Koel is a shy bird, they can be seen alone or in pair.
  • It is also known as Kokil or Asian Koel.Asian Koel or kokil lives in dense forest. Color of adult male Asian koel is glossy bluish-black or greenish-black.
  • Wings are relatively short, but tail is rather long. The Asian koel is a bird of light woodland and cultivation
  • Asian Koel is a shy bird, they can be seen alone or in pair. They have straight and swift flight with rapid wing beats

State Animal of Jharkhand: Indian Elephant

  • The scientific name of the Indian elephant is Elephas maximus indicus.
  • In Jharkhand, elephants are found in the forests of the districts of East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan etc.
  • The country's first elephant reserve area "Singhbhum Elephant Reserve" has been established in these districts to preserve elephants through scientific and planned management.

State Flower of Jharkhand: Palash(Butea monosperma)

  • The scientific name of Palash is Butea monosperma.
  • Palash is also known by names like Parsa, Tasu, Kinshuk.
  • Palash trees are abundantly seen in the forests of Jharkhand.
  • The Flowers of Palash tree is used to make color for the festival of Holi.
  • Palash tree flowers are also used to making drugs of many diseases like eye disease, chronic fever, gout, liver disorders, leucorrhoea, epilepsy, leprosy, and enlargement of spleen.

State Tree of Jharkhand: Sal (Shore robusta)

  • The scientific name of the sal is Shore robusta.
  • It is also known as Sakhu or Sakhua in Jharkhand.
  • Sal is a dicotyledonous perennial tree. Its wood is very hard, strong and brown in color.
  • It is used in building timber, railway sleepers etc.
  • sal have also a traditional use that is its leaves are widely used for making leaf plates and cups.
  • Seeds of sal are used to making oil that is called Sal butter which is used for cooking and lighting purpose.
