Teacher's Day History, Significance and Wishes

Teacher’s Day 2021

Dr. Radha Krishanan

In India, Teacher's Day has been an occasion to remember the contribution teachers have made to our lives. Every year on September 5, students write gratitude notes to their teachers to express thanks for their support.

It matters not whether the students are at school or logged on to an online course if the teacher is an academic or a music teacher if the teacher is a mentor or guide. Therefore, India celebrates Teachers' Day on this day. Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, India's first president, was memorialized on this day in 1962. In addition, it is important to recognize the importance of teachers in the lives of all individuals. Teachers' Day is observed nationwide on September 5th because it is Dr Radhakrishnan's birthday anniversary.

Teacher's Day History

His family was middle-class in Tirutani, where he was born on September 5th, 1888. He served as India's first Vice President and second President from 1893 to 1903. Distinguished as an exemplary teacher, he was considered an outstanding student and a dedicated educator. Additionally, he was an outstanding educator who was highly respected by his students.

His students and friends requested him to allow them to celebrate his birthday on September 5 while he was President of India from 1962 to 1967. A pompous ceremony, however, was denied by Dr Radhakrishnan. To acknowledge the contribution that teachers make to society, he said, celebrating this day as Teachers' Day would be a real honour.

Andhra Pradesh was the birthplace of Dr Radhakrishnan in 1888. He became an excellent student at an early age. In the following years, he taught Philosophy at prestigious Indian colleges, including the University of Mysore, the University of Calcutta, and the Madras Presidency College.

A lecture series and appointment as a principal were offered to him at Manchester College, Oxford. In 1929, he delivered the Hibbert Lectures at Manchester College. These lectures were later published in the book An Idealist View of Life.

Significance of Teacher’s Day 2021

As students, we learn how to fight for the battle of life and become better human beings under the guidance of teachers. Since teachers establish the academic foundations of students as well as teach ethics, we celebrate Teacher's Day in honour of them. The importance of the day can be seen particularly in that it's Dr Radhakrishnan's birthday, and he was a teacher who believed strongly in the importance of education in the country and by extension the youth as well.

Celebrations: Teacher’s Day 2021

Schools, colleges, and education institutions celebrate Teacher's Day to improve the relationship between students and teachers. Respect and love are shown to teachers by students. It's a day upon which students present flowers, chocolates, gifts, and handwritten cards to their favourite teachers to express their affection. Some schools organize cultural activities, such as writing essays, making speeches, playing games for teachers, and holding small celebrations.

Last year, schools and colleges were closed due to the COvid-19 pandemic, and schools resorted to virtual celebrations in place of the real ones. Many schools have continued to offer online classes in light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the Delta variant spread the threat. Therefore, virtual wishes and greetings are perfect ways to let your teachers know how much you cherish and love them, even if you are no longer a school or college student. This is because quality education is built on the foundation of teachers and teachers are often the few people in our lives who enjoy it when we, as their students, surpass them.
