Bundi is also known as Choti Kashi due to so many Temples and also termed as "Queen of Hadoti" and Stepwell City of Rajsthan. Bundi is a district in the State of Rajasthan with the population of 1,110,906 (2011 Census). It has an area of 5550 km2 . Bundi takes its name from the Bando Naal or the narrow passage, between the rugged hills. The town of Bundi is nestled within the cleft of the Aravali hills and features a special medieval flavor quite untouched by time.  Bundi, Hindoli, Nainwa, Keshoraipatan, and Indergarh are five tehsils in which Bundi is divided.

Bundi was conquered in 1241 by Rao Deva Singh from the Meena tribals. This was the first step in the establishment of Hadoti, when the Hadas moved down from the ‘Patthar’ around Bambaoda. The South-east Region of Rajasthan is known as Hadauti, - the land of the Hada Rajputs. Hadas are a major branch of the Chauhan Agnikula Rajputs (hailing from fire dynasty). They had settled in the hilly terrain of Mewar, at Bambaoda, near Bijoliya in the 12C. Prince Jait Singh of Bundi captured Kota in 1264 AD and Kota became a part of Bundi as the Jaghir (land grant) of the eldest prince of Bundi. Kota became a separate state in 1624. The state of Jhalawar was formed in 1838 out of Kota territory. Bundi is a magnificent town, which consist of several beautiful tourist points. Let’s take a look on the amazing tourist points of Bundi:

  • Sukh Mahal: It is a two-storied palace. It is famous for being the palace where Kipling wrote “Kim” . It was also a summer retreat of past rulers.

  • Taragarh Fort : It was built in 1345. It is the most attractive structure in Bundi. It is a tribute to Rajput Style. Its elephant, lotus motifs , topping pavilions , and excess of temple columns adds more beauty in it. 

  • Lake Jait Sagar: it is located near Taragarh Fort , it is surrounded by hills and covered with pretty flowers . they bloom during winter and monsoon. It is the perfect location for clicking pictures. 

  • Phool Sagar: it is a personal property of the descendants of the Royal family, it consists of paintings created by Italian prisoners. It is surrounded by a lake and beautiful gardens. 

  • Badal Mahal: It is located in Garh Palace. It is also known as Cloud Palace. It was built in two diverse two time periods . In the first stage, the verandah and ground floor was built by Maharawal Gopinath And the rest of the work was done by Maharawal Punjraj in 1609-1657AD.
