What is Yelagiri Summer Festival?

Each year, in the summer season, the Tamil Nadu Department of Tourism hosts a "Summer Festival" to attract visitors from all across the country. The celebration is conducted in the Yelagiri Hills to emphasise the indigenous population's culture, traditions, and customs. A flower exhibition, spice exhibition, dog show, cultural programmes, and a rose festival are all part of the festivities.

Yelagiri is a hill station town situated in Tirupathur (Tirupattur) district of Tamil Nadu state. Yelagiri is situated on Vaniyambadi_Tirupattur Road. Yelagiri, sometimes known as Elagiri, is a small hill station situated between Vaniyambadi and Jolarpettai. Orchards, rose gardens, and beautiful valleys surround Yelagiri Hill. Yelagiri is a subdivision of the Annamalai Hills.

Flower Show: One of the most popular events of the Yelagiri Summer Festival is the Flower Show, which features diverse flowers from the Nilgiri Region. The festival features over 250 exhibitors that display a variety of exotic flowers, such as Japanese Flower Arrangements, as well as local flowers. To awe the tourists, the flowers are placed in various patterns that imitate iconic structures and sculptures.

Dog Show: Many animal lovers attend this event to meet a variety of four-legged furry friends. This event features a variety of canine breeds, including Pugs, Bulldogs, Beagles, Poodles, and more.

Rose Festival: Another feature of the Yelagiri Summer Festival is the Rose Festival, a magnificent event featuring a showcase of rose types. The flowers are arranged in a tower to impress the audience. During the event, about 3000 different rose varietals will be on display.

Spice Show and Fruit Show: A variety of locally grown spices, such as cinnamon and cardamom, are tastefully packaged and displayed for sale. Many different fruit varieties are placed in beautiful artwork or buildings to attract tourists.

Cultural Programs: A variety of musical and dance performances are part of the cultural events. Performances by seasoned state artists in both traditional and contemporary forms are presented on the programmes.  By Rail: The nearest railway station to Yelagiri is Tiruppattur Railway Station, which is 30 KMs away.

 By Road: The nearest big city to Yealgiri is Thirupathur, which is 28KMs away. From here one can take public or private transport to reach Yelagiri.
