With the bat, Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul has helped Punjab beat Chennai Super Kings by six wickets in Match 53 of VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 from Abu Dhabi. With 135 runs needed to win, PBKS chased the target down in 13 overs as the right-hander hit an unbeaten 98 off 42 balls with seven fours and eight sixes. The chase was quick off the blocks for PBKS, with KL Rahul going for 29 runs in 15 balls off 4 overs, quick off the blocks, and propelling his side to 42/0 after four overs. Rahul went on to score a sensational fifty off just 25 balls against CSK. In the ninth over, Shahrukh Khan was out for PBKS; Rahul was still playing jaw-dropping shots. Prior to Aiden Markram's wicket in the 13th over, the PBKS captain Added 46 runs with Markram. But Rahul topped things off with a six, and PBKS were victorious.

Prior to this, CSK stayed unchanged, while PBKS swapped Nicholas Pooran for Chris Jordan. Ruturaj Gaikwad was among the wickets taken by Arshdeep Singh in the fourth over as PBKS managed to keep things tight with the ball. With Moeen Ali out in the sixth over, Arshdeep and PBKS scalped the second wicket. In his next two overs, Jordan picked up two wickets as Arshdeep and Harpreet Brar made excellent catches to get Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu out to reduce CSK to 42/4.

MS Dhoni was dismissed by Ravi Bishnoi in the 12th over after playing a four, giving CSK 61 runs as their fifth wicket. Following Dhoni's dismissal, Faf du Plessis remained in the middle on the field and continued to bowl well. As a group, he and Ravindra Jadeja scored 67 runs for CSK, helping the team rebuild. Keeping CSK close to a respectable total, they kept the scorecard ticking. With du Plessis' two fours at the end of the over, CSK moved past a hundred in the same over as Faf completed a well-compiled half-century. In the next two overs, du Plessis hit two sixes and a four before he was out in the final over, having made 76 runs. His good batsmanship led CSK to 134/6, however.
