As Ashwin stumped David Miller, DC came up with their third wicket against RR. As a result, Sanju Samson and Mahipal Lomror added 31 runs together to survive courtesy of a successful DRS. In their bowling matches, DC and RR made one and two changes, respectively, to their plays XIs from the previous encounter. Following an excellent start from Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw, RR struck very quickly, with Tyagi and Chetan Sakariya dismissing them quickly.

Captain Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer joined forces after DC's reconstruction were in need of a fresh start. After ten overs, DC was 66/2. The pair kept the scoreboard ticking. In the next over, Iyer and Pant combined for a 50-run partnership. Mustafizur Rahman and Rahul Tewatia struck back for RR, however. After Sanju Samson worked his magic behind the stumps to dismiss Iyer for 43, Mustafizur dismissed Pant for 13, who chopped one back to the stumps. Hetmyer then smashed 28 off eighteen deliveries to help DC pass 120 in just eight deliveries. As Mustafizur dismissed Hetmyer in the 17th over, DC reached its final total of 154/6.
