Rajasthan Royals (RR) were beaten by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 54 of the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 in Sharjah on Thursday. KKR scored 171/4 when they batted, and they bowled out RR for 85 to claim their seventh win of the season. KKR went on to win with four wickets from Shivam Mavi and three from Lockie Ferguson.

Shakib Al Hasan and Shivam Mavi took early wickets with the ball as KKR made inroads with the ball. Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed by Shakib, but Mavi accounted for Sanju Samson. Following that, Ferguson bowled a double-wicket over to dismiss Liam Livingstone and Anuj Rawat, reducing RR to 13/4. KKR kept chipping away as Mavi bowled Glenn Phillips and Shivam Dube in his eighth over. Chris Morris was caught LBW by Varun Chakaravarthy in the ninth over with RR down 35 runs. The KKR bowled out the RR for 85 after Rahul Tewatia scored 44. Rahul Tewatia showed some fight by scoring 44. With KKR batting first, Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer put together a 76-run partnership as the opening pair.

As Tewatia dismissed Iyer for 38 in the 11th over, RR finally got a breakthrough. Rahul Tripathi then joined Gill in the middle after he made his second consecutive fifty. Gill scored 56 runs before he was bowled by Chris Morris after adding 41 runs together. The wicket of Tripathi was taken soon after by Sakariya, who bagged his first wicket of the match while disturbing the timber. KKR posted a formidable 171/4 total on the board after captain Eoin Morgan and wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik put on an unbroken 26-run partnership.
