Serotype-2 Dengue Outbreaks in India, Symptoms, Precautions and Home Remedies

As a result of a high-level meeting on Serotype-2 Dengue outbreaks at the national level, the central government has suggested different strategies to stem the influx of Dengue cases in 11 states. There have been reported cases of Dengue associated with serotype 2 in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, MP, UP, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu.

It has been determined that the D2 strain of Dengue is behind the increasing numbers of Dengue cases and fatalities in the country. ICMR Director-General Dr Balram Bhargava said that most of the Dengue deaths in Mathura, Agra, and Firozabad districts were caused by the D2 strain of Dengue, which has the potential to cause haemorrhaging that is potentially fatal.

What is Serotype-2 Dengue (DENV-2 Strain)?

An outbreak of Dengue, which is a mosquito-borne disease responsible for fever, joint pain, fatigue, and rashes. The main mosquito that transmits it is Aedes aegypti, which is a female mosquito. A week or so is usually all it takes for most people to recover. Scientists consider serotype 2 (DENV-2 or D2) to be the most virulent strain of the Dengue virus and is responsible for causing the illness. There are several symptoms associated with Dengue Fever

  • High fever all of a sudden
  • Headaches that are severe
  • Having pain behind your eyes
  • The pain in the joints and muscles is severe
  • Fatigue
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Skin rash may occur 2-5 days after fever.

A life-threatening situation can sometimes occur if symptoms worsen. A severe Dengue infection that haemorrhages or causes shock may be referred to as Dengue shock syndrome. Sometimes it results in death due to sudden drops in blood pressure. Dengue haemorrhagic fever can cause the following symptoms

  • Enlargement of the liver
  • Circulation problems
  • Bleeding from the nose
  • An elevated temperature
  • Bruising under the skin (damaged blood vessels)
  • Breathing rapidly
  • Intense abdominal pain
  • Feeling fatigued

How to be safe from Serotype-2 Dengue?

Niti Aayog Member (Health), VK Paul, called on people to take precautions against vector-borne diseases, noting that Dengue and other vector-borne diseases can lead to death.

Dengue can kill you entirely, and we do not even have a vaccine for it, so we must take Dengue quite seriously. "Dengue is a disease caused by vectors; therefore, prevent mosquito bites by using mosquito nets and insect repellents, and wearing protective clothing to prevent mosquito bites." Malaria has similar effects, so we must continue fighting against it." Dr Paul advised.
