World Forgiveness Day 2021

When is World or Global Forgiveness Day is Celebrated?

World Forgiveness Day or Global Forgiveness Day is celebrated every year on the 7th of July.

What is Forgiveness:

Forgiveness is often misunderstood as forgetting but it’s not. According to psychologists, when a person lets go of a feeling of vengeance or resentment towards another person or group of persons who have caused him any harm, it is called forgiveness. It is not given importance in forgiving whether those people are worthy of forgiveness or not because in our Vedas it is said that "Kshama Veerasya Bhushanam". As much as it is important to understand what forgiveness is, it is equally important to understand what forgiveness is not. Forgiveness does not mean forgetting what happened to you. Forgiveness can improve one's spoiled relationships. Forgiving someone doesn't force you to meet the person who hurt you.

World Forgiveness Day

Whenever a person forgives the one who has wronged him, by doing so he gets peace of mind and gets rid of his corrosive anger towards the one who harmed him. It is essential that one should have positive feelings towards him after forgiving him. If you have any negative feelings about it, you may not have forgiven them completely. By forgiving someone, you free yourself from the pain that is hurting you in some way or the other and by doing this you are healing yourself and can finally move on with your life.

What is Forgiveness as per Hindu Scriptures or What is Forgiveness as Bhagavad Gita:

As Per Hindu Vedic Scriptures or Literature of Hinduism Kshama or Kshyama words describes the concepts of Forgiveness. Whenever the word Kshama is used it also brought Kripa (tenderness), Daya (Kindness) and Karuna (Compassion) along with it as per the scriptures. As per Hindu Scriptures and Hindu Dharma Forgiveness or Kshama is one of the Six Cardinal Virtues. As per Hindu Dharma, it is believed that when a person doesn’t forgive the offender or the one who wronged him carries baggage of painful memories, of bad or negative feelings, of rage and unsolved issues & emotions which will affect the present and the future of the person. If someone has done wrong then that person also asked for forgiveness too.

Importance of Forgiveness or Why We Celebrate Forgiveness Day:

Here are some reasons behind this day –

  • If a person continues to hold on to the anger and grudges then that person may harm himself by creating problems like stress. Stress slowly-slowly will cause the alteration in the hormones and later these unbalanced hormones will cause various types of health problems. So, to be in good health it’s better to give forgiveness.
  • Though one can forgive someone any day of the year. This day is just a reminder to do so. Once you grant forgiveness then you are letting go of the anger and the emotions attached with it and ultimately cleans your soul which will clear all your negative thoughts and will bring new emotions. Forgiveness is the way to start a fresh life.
  • Forgiveness is not about forgiving others only it’s also about yourself. We have to forgive ourselves also cause we as a human knowingly or unknowingly makes many mistakes. So, instead of harming or punishing yourselves, you should forgive yourself too and release yourself from the pain and misery. Once we forgive ourselves it’s become easy to forgive others.

Conclusion:

This World Forgiveness Day give yourself some slack and forgive yourself as well others. Make a list of the people who may have hurt you or harmed you. Call them or meet them and forgive them. On this World Forgiveness Day forgive your family members, forgive your friends, forgive your life partner, forgive your children and most importantly celebrate this day.
